FishMap App

The starting point: a fresh take on fishing apps

In late 2024, our client came to us with the concept for an innovative fishing app. Unlike most solutions on the market, FishMap isn't built around sharing individual catches but around visualizing them by location.

Its core feature is an interactive map where catch data appears tied to geographic positions. This lets users quickly spot active fishing spots and patterns, an approach that is still rare among fishing apps.

Development: a fast MVP and market validation

We kicked off the project with an MVP (minimum viable product) mindset, aiming to get to market quickly and collect real user feedback.

  • Development time: ~3 months
  • Platform: Mobile app + admin panel
  • Go-live timing: Start of the fishing season

This strategic timing was key: it meant the system could start collecting real data from day one.

During development, we paid special attention to:

  • a complex, map-based search system that works with multiple filter parameters,
  • a scalable data architecture capable of handling large volumes of location data,
  • and an admin panel where the client can:
  • track user activity,
  • manage catches,
  • send push notifications.

In the MVP, we also built a one-way messaging feature so the client can quickly get news and campaigns in front of users.

Technical challenges and solutions

One of the project's biggest technical challenges was map rendering and data accuracy.

A key element of the system is the heat-map visualization, which:

  • shows catch density through color intensity,
  • helps users choose where to fish more effectively,
  • stays easy to read even with large amounts of data.

Along the way, we had to solve several technical problems:

  • GPS inaccuracies: combining multiple data sources,
  • performance with large data volumes: optimized backend processes,
  • map differences between devices: a cross-platform testing protocol.

We tested continuously in real-world conditions throughout the project, and the result is a stable, reliable system.

Results and business impact

Shortly after going live, FishMap proved that the concept works:

  • 2,600+ registered users without any paid advertising
  • 8,000+ logged events (catches)
  • A steadily growing map database

User activity confirmed that a map-based fishing app meets a real market need.

Future development plans

In upcoming versions, we'll expand the platform with features that boost user engagement and create business value.

Focus areas for the next phase:

  • expanded notification and messaging modules,
  • more advanced user statistics and predictive recommendations,
  • community features and competitive elements,
  • smart analytics built on fishing data.

Goal: To build a complete fishing platform that doesn't just collect data but gives users real value for their decisions.
